DETROIT — Two Michigan EMS organizations and a fire chiefs group are asking state lawmakers for $20 million to fund the recruitment and training of at least 1,000 EMTs and paramedics.
The effort’s supporters include the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs, the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services and the Michigan EMS Practitioners Association.
The funds would come from the American Rescue Plan.

MAAS said in a statement that the 1,000 new hires could be recruited, trained and on duty within two years.
