BENSON, Ill. — A driver was at fault in a two-vehicle Woodford County accident Saturday that killed three people, including herself, police said Monday.
The driver drove past a stop sign about 2 a.m. on southbound County Road 2400 East at Illinois Route 116, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Mindy Carroll.
The vehicle, a silver Chevrolet, collided with an ambulance that was westbound on Route 116 east of Benson. The ambulance did not have its emergency lights activated, Carroll said.
The collision killed the Chevrolet driver, 20-year-old Morgan Ryder of Gridley, and two 19-year-old passengers, Jared Seggerman of Minonk and Seth Unruh of Pattonsburg.
According to Carroll, the ambulance had the right of way and alcohol was not cited as a factor in the crash. The area where the wreck occurred is rural, surrounded by corn and soybean fields.
There were three people inside the ambulance, including a patient. Carroll said she didn’t know where the ambulance was headed.
The driver of the ambulance was injured and transported to a hospital, as was another passenger among four in the Chevrolet.
Autopsies on Ryder, Seggerman and Unruh were to be performed Monday.
