DALHART, Texas — Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department Chief Curtis Brown and Firefighter Brendan Torres died Tuesday night after the department vehicle they were in collided with a semi.
The pair were returning from a call, the department said.
Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a call about a head-on collision involving the fire department vehicle and a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer at 8:40 p.m., KFDA reported.
Troopers said they believe the truck tractor tried to pass another vehicle before striking the fire department vehicle.
Brown and Torres were pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was injured and transported to a hospital, the news outlet reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
“Please give the families, firefighters, and their families space and time as figure out how to move forward,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.
