AUSTIN — Austin-Travis County EMS announced the hiring of its first female tactical paramedic this week.
Micah Morgan, a clinical specialist with ATCEMS, joined the department in 2018 with the hope of one day joining the Tactical Paramedic Team.
“Joining the tactical team has been a longstanding goal of mine, and I’m both excited and humbled to be the first female member of the team,” she said in an interview with KXAN.
The tactical team consists of 12 paramedics, with two tactical medics on duty at all times. The team runs weekly drills with the Austin Police Department and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office and is embedded with SWAT teams from both agencies.
“We’re all excited to welcome Micah to the team,” said Capt. Matt Clark, the team’s leader. “She’s exceeded our expectations and we’re looking forward to working with her. She’s a great addition to our team.”
