ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A patient suffering from “severe medical issues’’ was taken into custody after allegedly stealing a Rockingham County EMS ambulance on June 19, according to Eden Police.
Rockingham County Emergency Services Director Rodney Cates said the incident happened about 2:30 a.m. when a patient became agitated “at the scene,’' ran for the ambulance, and drove it away.
The patient hit a mailbox, but Eden Police were able to stop the emergency vehicle using stop sticks, they said. No one was hurt in the incident, authorities said.
The patient was taken into custody, according to EMS officials. Officials did not disclose: the name of the patient, whether the patient was charged with a crime, the location of the incident or details about the reason for the ambulance call that led to the theft.
