GREENVILLE, Ala. — A 31-year-old Florida man apparently wanted to make a run for the border, but needed a vehicle to do it.

Police in Greenville, Ala., say the man jumped into an unlocked ambulance parked at a Taco Bell on Fort Dale Road, found the keys, and took off Wednesday afternoon, according to WSFA.

His joyride didn’t last long, however. Police found the stolen ambulance a short time later on N. College Street. The suspect tried to flee, but was quickly apprehended.

Through surveillance video from the restaurant, police were able to identify the suspect as Bradley Paul Harriford. Harriford was transported to the Butler County Jail, where he remains without bond on charges of 1st-degree theft of property and attempting to elude.

Harriford is also wanted for probation violation in Florida, where he had been released from a state prison on Sept. 1 after serving three years for assaulting a law enforcement officer or other first responder, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Harriford served two prior jail terms in Florida on convictions including four counts of aggravated battery, grand theft and child neglect.
