ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An employee of an ambulance service was arrested and accused of stealing ambulance equipment and selling it online.
KOB reported that Jerimeice Johns was arrested after a nurse noticed a patient who showed up at the hospital wearing a blood monitoring device that belonged to Albuquerque Ambulance Service.
When the nurse asked the patient’s mother where it was purchased, she said she bought it on eBay.
Albuquerque Ambulance then took an inventory of their equipment and “discovered 87 pieces of equipment were missing from the Albuquerque Ambulance equipment room.”
Detectives also looked into the eBay account and found that the seller “had listed 52 items/medical instruments on his selling history. Seven of those items had already sold for a total of $4,040.50.”
Johns, who was a logistics shift leader in the supply room, was arrested and charged with embezzlement and receiving stolen property.
“We take our obligations to the communities we serve very seriously,” Albuquerque Ambulance Service said in a statement. “We have strict policies and procedures in place that address employee conduct. Employee theft is unacceptable and results in termination. We are grateful to the Albuquerque police department for their willingness and ability to assist us.”
