HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Huron Township Public Safety Department is working hand-in-hand with residents to put together a registry that will serve as a critical information resource to aid seniors and others who are vulnerable.
It is a partnership that is known as the Tucker Morrison Initiative.
It features the Vulnerable Person Registry that best identifies seniors who live alone and are at risk.
“Do you have a child or know a person that could benefit from this registry,” Everette Robbins, director of public safety said via the police department’s social media account. “Are you one of our incredible senior citizens who live alone and wants us to check on you during an emergency? If so, use the QR code or go to the Huron Township website to register.”
Robbins helped organize and promote the benefits of the free, voluntary program.
“It will provide our first responders with quick access to critical information about that person so assistance can be provided in an emergency situation,” Robbins said. “When a vulnerable person is thought to be at risk, his or her personal information can quickly be accessed to assist with police responses. This registry can provide vital information that would reduce time, manpower, and resources when responding to a call involving a vulnerable person.”
The following are characteristics of what the township considers a vulnerable person:
• Elderly (age 65 years of age and older)
• A person with autism
• A person with dementia or Alzheimer’s
• A person who suffers or has suffered from mental, emotional, or addictive illness(es)
• A person with a traumatic brain injury
• A deaf or blind person
• A person with a genetic condition, such as Down Syndrome
The online registration form must be completed by the parent/guardian of the vulnerable person.
The registry will require a picture of the vulnerable person.
Once registered, the person will remain on the registry until removed by the registering party
