BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Crews rescued a worker who became entrapped at a construction site in Bridgeport on Monday morning when a brick wall collapsed on top of him.

Emergency crews responded to the 1069 Stratford Ave. at 9:09 a.m. after receiving a report of an “industrial/machinery entrapment,” according to Tiadora Josef, director of public information for the city of Bridgeport.

Josef said the response included the Bridgeport police and fire departments as well as AMR.

Responding crews found that a brick wall collapsed on top of a worker in the basement, Josef said. As firefighters were working to rescue the man a second collapse occurred around 9:45 p.m.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, was extracted from the collapse, according to Josef. He was alert and conscious when he was taken to an area hospital with lower leg injuries.

“Bridgeport Fire Department would like to thank all the first responders who worked diligently together to bring this patient to safety,” city officials said in a statement
