ARLINGTON, Va. — An off-duty McLean Volunteer Fire Department firefighter and EMT helped to rescue several people from a bar fire on Aug. 12 in Arlington. Since then, he has been praised for his quick response and called a hero, news outlets said.

Timo Klotz was at a party when he rescued three people trapped beneath debris after an Uber driver crashed their car into the Ireland’s Four Court, 7News reported.

He was returning from moving his car when he heard a loud bang. Klotz ran into the building through the hole made by the car.

“I came in, I saw multiple people that were on the right side,” Klotz said. “There was a person laying there and there were two other people, when I got in, I saw that they were buried partially under all the debris.”

A total of 15 people were injured, according to ARLNOW. But there were no deaths.

Several people were treated on scene, and some were transported, ARLNOW reported.

Klotz suffered smoke inhalation, was treated at a hospital and will have follow-ups.

“I spent most of the night in a Fairfax hospital,” he said.
