ANHUI PROVINCE, China — An ambulance crew in China transporting an elderly patient left his body with a family member after discovering that he had passed away.
The elderly man was involved in a traffic accident August 10 while riding his bicycle in the street. After a local clinic saw the extent of his injuries, it was decided that the patient needed to be transferred to a larger hospital.
According to Anhui News, the ambulance delivering the man to the hospital stopped to meet another ambulance during transport. A physical examination of the patient revealed that he had died.
At that point, the medical crew reportedly told the man’s family that they had to respond to another emergency, and left the body behind “on the side of the road” with one of the patient’s relatives.
The family member reported the incident to the police, who explained that the body should have been taken to a mortuary instead of being unloaded en route to the hospital.
The medical crew has since been fired, and the hospital has compensated the family for their trouble.
