AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-Travis County EMS has a new chief, the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday.

Robert Luckritz, a longtime paramedic and licensed attorney, was chosen from an initial field of 37 applicants that was narrowed to two — Luckritz and interim chief Jasper Brown.

The city manager announced the decision Tuesday, but it must be confirmed by the city council, which plans to meet on Feb. 17.

Longtime Chief Ernesto Rodriguez retired last May.
