COLUMBUS, Ohio — The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) has issued three important updates for the EMS community, addressing certification re-entry requirements, the launch of new examination portals, and an upcoming recertification deadline.
1. Public comment period for ALS certification re-entry requirements
The NREMT has opened a 60-day public comment period for its 24-Resolution-01: Resolution on Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification re-entry requirements. This comes in light of the discontinuation of the ALS psychomotor examination. To adapt, the Registry is updating its entry and re-entry processes for AEMT and paramedic certifications, removing the requirement for this exam. Feedback is encouraged and can be submitted until May 26, 2024, through the NREMT’s website.
2. Launch of a new portal for AEMT and paramedic certification examinations
A new portal has been launched to guide candidates through the new AEMT and paramedic certification examinations set to begin on July 1, 2024. This platform offers comprehensive resources, including candidate pathways, FAQs, sample packets for Technology Enhanced Items (TEIs), and important dates and costs associated with the new exams. Access to the portal is available directly from the NREMT.
3. Reminder of the March 31, 2024, recertification deadline
The NREMT reminds EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics with certifications expiring on March 31, 2024, that the deadline to recertify is quickly approaching. With an expected influx of recertification applications, clinicians are urged to submit their paperwork as early as possible to ensure a smooth process.
