PINE HAVEN, Wyo. — The Pine Haven area first responder community has lost two of their own in less than a week.
A hospital ambulance was struck by a vehicle at the scene of a crash on Interstate 80 at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the U.S. First Responders Association. One EMT was killed.
The other Memorial Hospital of Carbon County EMT on the scene was injured, the hospital announced.
Wamsutter firefighters on site were not harmed.
Late Sunday, the body of a firefighter was recovered from the Keyhole Reservoir.
Firefighters and other local men had responded to a rescue call at the reservoir after a man on an ATV fell through ice Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reported.
The man told dispatchers he had pulled himself onto the ice. Firefighters responded to the scene, and three men on an ATV rode onto the ice, apparently to help the firefighters, according to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
The three men also fell through the ice. Firefighters rescued one. They could not find the other two in the gusting snow and wind.
