STARKE COUNTY, Ind. — One Indiana paramedic was killed and another critically injured when their ambulance was involved in a vehicle crash and rollover in Starke County on August 5, 2023.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Office said the Starke County ambulance was responding to a call Saturday afternoon when they were involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle, WNDU reported.
Officials reported Paramedic Michael Wilcox died in the crash, and Paramedic Brandy Salita was transported to Northwest Hospital in LaPorte in critical condition.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Local first responders organized a procession to accompany Wilcox’s body to the coroner’s office.
GoFundMe accounts have been created to support the family of Wilcox and the living expenses of Salita while she is unable to work.
