WASHINGTON — The upcoming EMS Focus webinar, hosted by the NHTSA Office of EMS, will cover the latest updates on Mpox, a viral disease, and its impact on EMS operations.
The webinar, titled “Navigating Mpox: Latest Updates and Strategies for EMS Clinicians,” will take place on Wednesday, October 2, at 1 pm ET.
This session is designed to provide EMS professionals with crucial insights into the Mpox outbreak, including vaccine eligibility, available treatments, and effective strategies to prevent further spread. With Mpox cases emerging in the U.S. since 2022, early detection and rapid response are vital for emergency responders.
Key topics will include:
- An overview of the new respiratory transmissible clade in Africa,
- The latest epidemiological data, and
- Specific guidance for EMS clinicians to identify potential Mpox cases during transport and initiate isolation protocols.
Panelists for this webinar are Bryan E. Christensen, PhD, MEPC, CIH, REHS/RS from the CDC’s Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology, and Alexander Isakov, MD, MPH, Executive Director and Professor of Emergency Medicine, Emory School of Medicine. These experts will share their experiences and answer questions from participants.
