Company Name: Hinckley Medical

Your name and title: Tristen Hazlett, Founder/CEO

1) Where did your company name originate from?

I grew up enjoying the outdoors near Hinckley, Minnesota, and the memories inspired the name of the company.

2) What was the inspiration behind starting your company?

My older brother was a paramedic and expressed his struggles of estimating patient weight, then calculating medication dosages in the field. This sparked my interest to begin developing our solutions.

3) What is your signature product and how does it work?

OneWeight® is the first patient scale attachment for ambulance gurneys. Compatible with any powered stretcher on the market, it mounts to the top face, under the mattress, with semi-permanent clamps and utilizes a series of load cells to sum up the weight of the patient. We pair the device with OneDose™, a protocol and clinical support software, to assist in medication dosing and treatment.

4) Why do you believe your products are essential to your vertical (Police, Fire, EMS, Corrections, Government) community?

The EMS community has long been left to guess patient weights in the field and manually calculate dosages for life-saving medications. Pairing an accurate weight measurement tool with software to reduce cognitive load on providers is critical to addressing several problems in the industry, including stress, retention, and patient care.

5) What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?

Inventing a first-of-its-kind FDA-regulated medical device for a unique environment was among our greatest challenges. Through more than a year of field trials and collaboration with leading agencies, we were able to address these early challenges and successfully bring OneWeight® to market.

6) What makes your company unique?

We are a technology company to our core, bringing together a group of dedicated engineers who collaborate with our partners in the industry to bring new ideas to life. Our core focus is to enable EMS providers with tools to provide safer and more efficient patient care.

7) What do your customers like best about you and your products?

Our customers appreciate the reliability of our products and our outstanding customer service. They value how OneWeight® and OneDose™ seamlessly integrate into their existing workflows, enhancing their ability to provide precise and efficient care without adding complexity.

8) What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder/local government community?

The most rewarding part is knowing that our innovations directly contribute to saving lives and improving the quality of care that first responders can provide. Seeing the positive impact on both providers and patients is incredibly fulfilling.

9) Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety/community? Tell us more.

Yes, we actively support multiple state EMS associations dedicated to improving the wellness of EMS professionals and their patients.

10) Is there any fun fact or trivia that you’d like to share with our users about you or your company?

A fun fact about Hinckley Medical is that our initial prototype for the OneWeight® scale was developed in a garage with repurposed materials from a local hardware store. It’s a testament to our innovative spirit and determination to solve real-world problems.

11) What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?

We are currently working on expanding our product line to include more advanced features for our OneDose™ software and exploring new applications for our OneWeight® technology in other medical fields. Additionally, we are initiating several pilot programs with larger EMS agencies to further refine and enhance our solutions.
