BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. — A worker at a fruit processing plant in Baldwinsville was taken to a hospital Thursday after hydrogen gas leaked in the facility, firefighters said.

A hazmat team was called at 7:26 a.m. to the plant at 8864 Sixty Road after workers reported feeling ill, Syracuse Fire Department firefighters said. Testing and air monitoring found a battery-powered forklift was leaking hydrogen while it was charging.

Crews disconnected it from power and the leak was contained to the plant, they said.

Two employees were evaluated. One was released and another was taken to a hospital.
