NEW YORK — An FDNY EMS lieutenant was shot four times Saturday after a gunman opened fire at a hookah bar.
Lt. Leon Michel, 38, was shot in the stomach, elbow and ankle after a random fight broke out at the bar, reported the NY Daily News. Michel, a 12-year veteran, was celebrating with his colleagues after passing a department exam.
Lt. Michel was transported to the hospital, where he is recovering after undergoing surgery.
“All of the members of the FDNY family are praying for a full recovery for our wounded member,” Robert Ungar, spokesman for the Uniformed EMS Officers Union FDNY, said. “We will stand by him and his family during this time of need.”
Lt. Michel’s colleagues were not injured during the incident. The shooting is still under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.
