NEW YORK — Children of first responders are invited to apply to a college scholarship program for the 2021/2022 academic year, according to a release Thursday from the First Responders Children’s Foundation.
Students will be awarded funding based on criteria including financial need and academic merit, according to the release. The program is funded by CSX, a freight railroad company, through its Pride in Service community investment initiative. This application season marks the third scholarship program through a partnership between FRCF and CSX. Previous scholarship recipients have studied a wide range of subjects including nursing, biology, criminal justice, economics, musical theater and cyber security.
All children of first responders who meet the requirements are encouraged to apply. According to the release, special consideration will be given to children whose parent lost their life or became disabled in the line of duty, given that those families often face significant financial hurdles.
