Longtime N.C. EMT dies of cancer

TROY, N.C. — EMT Ricky Batten died of cancer Monday, according to a Facebook post by the Troy (N.C.) Fire Department.

Batten was 61, according to his obituary. He volunteered and worked in EMS for over 40 years, the department said.

Individuals and agencies expressed their condolences online.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the Troy Fire Dept, FirstHealth, and Montgomery Co. today and in the days moving forward after losing one of their own ?,” the Anson Rescue Squad posted on Facebook.
