AUGUSTA, Ga. — An ambulance was called to the AirStrike trampoline park Friday in reference to a broken leg, though a witness said the victim’s foot appeared to be nearly cut off at the ankle.

Richmond County dispatch confirmed that an ambulance was called to the business at 1249 Augusta West Parkway on Friday afternoon but was unable to provide further details.

Melodie Good, an Evans resident who took her children to AirStrike on Friday, said the victim was a young man who appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s.

Good wasn’t aware that something was wrong until a crowd began forming around the victim in the trampoline area. His foot was cut at the ankle, through the bone, with only a bit of skin keeping it attached to the leg, she said.

“My first reaction was that what I was looking at couldn’t be real,” Good said.

Another bystander said she saw a bone protruding from the injury.

When reached by phone Friday, a woman who identified herself as an Airstrike manager refused to comment and would not give her full name.

AirStrike opened in May at the former Augusta Ice Sports Center. The 13,000-square-foot building includes 60 connected trampolines. Customers must sign a waiver absolving AirStrike of any injuries sustained inside the business, officials told The Augusta Chronicle in May.

The company’s Web site says trampoline parks have an injury incident rate of 0.02 percent and that most injuries involved burns or bruises.
