Bothell, WA, – The GlideScope® Cobalt video laryngoscope, invented by Dr. Jack Pacey and manufactured by Verathon Inc., was featured on the February 5, 2009 episode of the television show “ER.” The program entitled “A Long Strange Trip” included the story of a retired, aging Emergency Department physician experiencing flashbacks to the 1968 emergency room (ER). In an intubation scene, direct laryngoscopy was shown as the tool used back in 1968. Flashing forward to present day, the tool shown for intubation was the GlideScope® Cobalt video laryngoscope.
Designed for 1st Pass Success, the GlideScope® video laryngoscope provides a consistently clear view enabling quick intubation. The GlideScope® Cobalt is based on the GVL® design which achieves a Cormack-Lehane Grade I or Grade II view 99 percent1 of the time. The single use GlideScope® Cobalt system consists of: a non-glare color monitor; a choice of four sizes of GVL® Stat and two sizes of video baton which houses a high-resolution camera with an anti-fogging mechanism to resist lens contamination; and an optional mobile stand, IV pole mount or hard shell case.
