PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — A new “Sepsis Alert” program started last week to lower the condition’s mortality rate.
A collaboration among the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center and Dr. Andres Suarez, an infectious disease specialist, the program coordinates EMS and clinical efforts to start treatment as early as possible, WPBF reported.
Paramedics have been trained to recognize sepsis’ symptoms and begin treatment before arriving at the hospital. The medics also notify the hospital so that treatment can start as soon as the patient arrives, cutting the treatment time in half.
