A new Emergency Pharmacology mobile app provides paramedic students in Australia and New Zealand with access to information about drugs to give in emergencies.
The app is a joint project between Charles Sturt University paramedic lecturer Matthew Caffey, and app development company Appiwork.
The app provides a digital version of information from the Paramedic and Emergency Pharmacology Guidelines booklet published by Caffey and recommended for second-year paramedic students. It provides a searchable, alphabetical list of more than 90 common emergency medications.
Single-page charts contain the medication’s class, mechanism, simple pharmacokinetics, indications, contraindications, side effects, precautions, facts, common preparations and dosage ranges.
It also includes appendixes of regularly prescribed medications, trade names, checklists, indications, abbreviations and formulas.
The app is available for download via the Apple App Store and Android on Google Play for $4.99.
