During rebreathing of CO2, the breathing pattern or rhythm usually normal and occurs approximately once every 3 to 5 seconds. The shape or morphology of the capnogram is normal with a rapid increase in phase II, gradual and smooth upslope during phase III, and an abrupt descent to baseline during inhalation.
