MONTICELLO, Maine — Police said an EMT fell asleep at the wheel of an ambulance, drifted off the road and hit a pole early Friday morning.
WCSH6.com reported that the driver, EMT Nicholas Pelletier, 18, and another EMT were not injured in the crash. The pole broke and power lines became tangled in trees, causing an outage.
The highway was shut down for three hours while crews cleaned up the downed power lines and restored power.
This is the third incident in Maine, according to the report, of an EMS provider falling asleep at the wheel and causing a crash in the last 30 days.
