Family sues ambulance service for woman’s death

The 66-year-old woman was allegedly not secured to her seat in the ambulance and was injured while riding in the vehicle

SCRANTON, Pa. — The family of a Pa. woman who died from injuries sustained during an ambulance crash has sued the ambulance service and the medic driving the vehicle for more than $50,000.

Ann Marie Parker, 66, suffered head injuries and a broken hip while in an ambulance transporting her from a dialysis treatment to the nursing home in which she lived in Feb. 2011, according to the Times-Tribune.

Parker was reportedly thrown from her seat while riding in the ambulance because she was not fully fastened into her seat. She died two weeks after being injured. Lawyers for Parker’s family said the driver, William W. Snyder, did not secure Parker in the ambulance, “drove recklessly” and went on to file a false report about what occurred.

Lawyers also alleged that the Lackawanna Ambulance service hired Snyder despite a “long history of convictions for traffic violations,” including drag racing and license suspension.

The Times-Tribune reported that Snyder is in Lackawanna County Prison on an unrelated arson charge.
