BAY COUNTY, Fla. — A paramedic who treated a woman after a vehicle crash went the extra mile to keep her company and help her family.
My Panhandle reported that Bay County Paramedic Rebecca Smith responded to a March 12 vehicle crash and was concerned about the victim.
“It was pretty bad,” Smith said. “There was a couple trauma alerts, and kids involved. She was here from out of town, passing through to her job, and her family lives 8 hours away.”
Smith made a plan to spend some time with the woman before her family arrived, located the tow company who moved her totaled car and made arrangements for her family to have a place to stay.
The paramedic spent about two hours with her patient, chatting and joking with her, and the next day she met with the family, who thanked her for her actions.
“You don’t do it for a thank you. You do it because it’s what you do,” Smith said. “We’re selfless people. We put others people before ourselves, and our families. So, I didn’t need it, but you know was nice to be able to follow up on her.”
