WAUSHARA COUNTY, Wis. — A new USDA-funded telemedicine program is enhancing emergency care in a rural Wisconsin county, aiming to improve patient outcomes for 25,000 residents, the Waushara Argus reported.

With a $227,400 investment from the USDA Rural Development’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant program, Waushara County EMS connected seven rural stations through video conferencing for real-time training and equipped seven vehicles with mobile hotspots and telehealth systems, according to the Waushara Argus.

The grant program funds distance learning and telemedicine in rural areas to improve access to education, training and healthcare. Since 2021, Rural Development has invested over $256 million in telehealth and learning, including nearly $1.3 million in Wisconsin, benefiting around 60,000 rural residents.
