BLADENBORO, N.C. — A 21-year veteran of the Bladenboro EMS died last week after contracting COVID-19.

Donna Cagle was diagnosed with the virus on August 16 and went to the emergency room five days later on August 21, according to Jeanene Green, Cagle’s friend and colleague, Fox Wilmington reported.

“She was a very caring person, she was very dependable, there’s never been a time when you called on Donna and she did not reach out to help you,” Green said. “That was just in h er nature to be caring, she’s been like that all of her life. She’s been in the service for 21 years, she was our secretary, she kept everything organized. We’re really going to miss her.”

Green said Cagle was unvaccinated when she contracted the virus.

“I wish she done got vaccinated,” she said. “She was thinking about it, but it caught her before; it was too late.”

Green wants others to know that receiving the COVID-19 shot could save their life.

“Get vaccinated. I mean, you might get sick for a couple of days after you get vaccinated, but it’s worth coming home to your family,” she said.
