9-year-old girl becomes dispatcher for a day

Jessica said she learned that the most important part of the job is staying calm

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. — A 9-year-old girl had the opportunity to be a 911 dispatcher for a day.

12News.com reported that Jessica’s teacher at Cottonwood (Ariz.) Elementary School had her students practice writing professional letters.

“Most of our class wrote to McDonald’s or other places, but I wanted to write to a place that protects our town and helps us be safe,” Jessica said.

Jessica, wearing a shirt that said “Future Dispatcher Jessica” on the back, said she learned from police officers and dispatchers that the most important part of the job is staying calm.

Jessica said she wants to take the lessons she learned and apply them to her future career.

“I want to work here someday,” she said.
