MOROCCO — For three days, crews have been working to rescue a 5-year-old boy who fell down a well in northern Morocco, CNN reported.
The child, Rayan, has blood on his face, the New York Times reported, and the rescue effort reached a critical stage Friday.
Rescuers are working to dig a parallel shaft with bulldozers. A local publication, Le360, reported that two people are manually digging the last several inches toward the child.
Authorities have been able to send down water and food to the child.
Rayan’s father told reporters that he had been trying to fix the well when his son fell in.
“Everyone is doing their best so that he comes out alive and that we can take him in our arms by the end of the day,” he said.
A crowd of people have gathered at the scene, and many more are following the story on social media via the hashtag #SaveRayan.
