MANSFIELD, Mass. — A Massachusetts firefighter-paramedic died of cancer on Saturday after a “long battle” with the disease, his department said.
Mansfield Firefighter-Paramedic Michael McLaughlin, 39, was a third-generation firefighter and served at the department for eight years, according to The Sun Chronicle. His father, grandfather and uncle were also firefighters.
Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers described McLaughlin as selfless and cheerful, and said he often volunteered for local charities and community events.
McLaughlin held a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in fire science. He had previously owned a mooring company and was passionate about boating and spending time on the waters of Cape Cod, according to his obituary. He is survived by his wife, stepdaughter, parents and brother.
