SCITUATE, Mass. — Video shows the removal of a seriously injured firefighter from a burning structure collapse.
Marshfield (Mass.) Fire Department Lt. Joseph Kalinowski, 45, was part of one of the first crews on the scene and entered the two-and-half story home’s second floor to fight the Tuesday-morning blaze, according to the Gatehouse News Service.
The home had suffered significant structural damage from the fire and collapsed, trapping Lt. Kalinowski under the burning debris.
A mayday report was immediately issued and crews were deployed to save him. It took crews 11 minutes to complete the rescue. He was medflighted to the hospital afterwards.
Chief Kevin Robinson said Lt. Kalinowski suffered severe burns to his back and neck and is awaiting a consultation from a burn specialist.
Doctors have not found any other injuries.
Lt. Kalinowski is a 14-year veteran of the department.
