MILWAUKIE, Ore. — David Staab, a paramedic assigned to Clackamas County, was honored with the American Ambulance Association’s Star of Life award.

The award is “the nation’s highest honor for private ambulance technicians,” according to a news release from Staab’s employer, American Medical Response.

Staab has 20 years of experience and teaches new paramedics. The 49-year-old was nominated for “his positive attitude, level of commitment, and the consistent great work he provides,” the release said.

Last year, Staab volunteered for nearly three weeks to help in the Gulf Coast’s recovery after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Staab, who live in Mt. Angel, accepted his award recently in Washington, D.C. He was one of 100 paramedics, dispatchers and other emergency workers honored from across the country.
