BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Fla. woman has admitted to reporting a fake robbery to dodge an ambulance charge after she fell while drinking.
Veronica A. Armitage, 54, allegedly fell down while she was drinking beer Tuesday night and called police to report a robbery, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Armitage told Boyton Beach Police that a black man had stolen $80 from her and pushed her to the ground. Police then went on an extensive search of the area while she was transported to the hospital.
When a detective called Armitage’s phone number, her father answered and said he didn’t know about any robberies involving his daughter.
Armitage later admitted that she “totally made up the robbery” to get out of an anticipated ambulance bill. She reasoned that her insurance wouldn’t cover the transportation cost because it was an accidental fall and she had been drinking.
She has been arrested and charged with false reporting of a non-existent crime.
