Train blocks ambulance from reaching special needs patient

A resident’s cellphone video captured the man being lifted between the rail cars and carried to paramedics

LEEDS, Ala. — An ambulance was unable to reach a special needs patient after a train blocked the only entrance to a subdivision.

WVTM13 reported that a resident took a video on their cellphone of residents carrying the patient to paramedics, lifting him between the rail cars.

“He would have been dead if he would have had to wait an hour,” resident Denise Mayo said. “After we had him in the ambulance, it was still an hour before the train moved.”

Residents said that trains block their only way in and out of the neighborhood sometimes for hours at a time.

The man remains in intensive care, according to the report.
