Ky. EMT sues officer for pulling over ambulance during patient transport

The service claims the officer pulled them over for no apparent reason, other than to intimidate and threaten

JACKSON, Ky. — An EMT is suing a police officer for pulling him over during a patient transport last week.

Jason Crigger, an Arrow-Med Ambulance EMT, said he was transporting a dialysis patient when Breathitt County Special Deputy Steve McIntosh pulled the ambulance over with no reason and harassed the crew.

“Never gave me a reason that he pulled me over,” Crigger told WKYT. “Never accused me of any traffic violations or anything of the sort. It appeared to me he just pulled me over to try to threaten and intimidate us.”

McIntosh, however, said the lawsuit is nothing more than a retaliation for a lawsuit he filed against the service last year. The suit accuses Arrow-Med of Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

McIntosh owns a competing ambulance service in the county. He said he had valid reasons for pulling over the ambulance, but did not disclose what they were.

“Mr. McIntosh needs to work on improving his own service versus trying to put our service out of business,” Jay Arrowood, owner of Arrow-Med Ambulance said. “If you’ll pull an ambulance over for no reasons, hindering patient care, there’s nothing you won’t do.”

Crigger’s lawsuit is seeking compensation for humiliation and suffering, punitive damages and an injunction in preventing anyone acting in concert with McIntosh to stop interfering with Arrow-Med.

A court date has not been scheduled yet.
