HONOLULU — The Honolulu Fire Department responded to an ambulance fire at Queen’s Medical Center emergency department on Oahu on June 26.

Jim Ireland, Director of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, said the patient was not in the ambulance and there were no injuries, KITV reported.

In 2022, an ambulance caught fire at Adventist Health Castle. The fire began in the back of the ambulance where Paramedic Jeff Wilkinson was treating 91-year-old Fred Kaneshiro, who died at the scene. Wilkinson was critically injured but has since returned to work.

The Honolulu Fire Department is leading the investigation with assistance from federal, state and local agencies
