NEW YORK — A FDNY EMT arrested after a five month investigation and charged with selling heroin was released without bail to his cop mother and firefighter father on Saturday.
Prosecutors asked for $10,000 bail, but Judge Bruce Allen released Joseph Meyer, 25, to his parents. He showed no emotion during his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, New York Daily News reports.
Meyer, along with a former substitute teacher Lisa Testa, 33, were arrested Thursday while waiting for a supplier outside her home. The multiple drug sale and possession charged stem from allegedly selling heroin four times and Oxycontine once. Testa is being held on $15,000 bail.
Meyer has been an EMT for two years, and was suspended for 30 days without pay. He also underwent voluntary drug counseling through FDNY before the undercover sting, his attorney Oliver Storch told the Daily News reports.
“You have a person who is in the business of saving lives,” Storch said. “Sometimes people who heal others have to heal themselves first.”
