PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS announced that 14 paramedics have completed training to independently administer blood products in the field under PA State Protocol 6095.

Previously, blood was administered by UPMC Medical Command Physicians, but now paramedics can do so without a physician present. Select vehicles will soon carry blood products as well.

The bureau thanked Dr. Lenny Weiss for his role in developing the protocol and training our paramedics. More will be trained in the coming months to continue enhancing patient care.
