INDIANAPOLIS — In early June, Target employees in Davenport, Iowa, saved a life after finding a customer unresponsive in an aisle. The staff quickly called 911, performed CPR, and used an AED to deliver two shocks before emergency responders arrived.

The patient’s pulse was restored, and they were later stabilized at the hospital, according to a MEDIC EMS press release.

“Initially, there was uncertainty about the patient’s condition,” MEDIC EMS Training and Development Manager Kyle Beale said. “I was able to contact the patient a few weeks later and found out they made a complete recovery. I was in shock, considering the survival of cardiac arrest is very slim, and to add, this patient had a great outcome, which is extremely rare.”

On July 12, the life-saving Target employees received the HeartSaver Hero Award at the Scott County Administration building and met the recovered patient. “Meeting the patient was so rewarding,” said one employee. Target provides CPR and AED training to all staff.
